Lifestyle Photo Retouching for SHAN’s Summer Campaign

A lifestyle photo retoucher’s work for a Canadian luxury brand

SHAN — a Canadian luxury brand specializing in clothing, swimwear, and accessories for both men and women — partnered with The Retoucher Studio to refine their 2025 summer campaign. As a lifestyle photo retoucher serving Toronto and clients across Canada, our goal was to keep the imagery aspirational, natural, and technically flawless for large-scale billboards, in-store window displays, and social media.

The campaign was shot in an outdoor seaside setting during golden hour, blending ready-to-wear looks, swimwear, and statement accessories such as sunglasses. This required an experienced editorial image editor and fashion photo retoucher who could preserve the authenticity of the scene while ensuring every garment, accessory, and detail looked print-ready.

Lifestyle retouching approach: balancing mood & precision

Lifestyle photography lives between editorial storytelling and commercial clarity—it needs to feel organic, but the products must still stand out. Our work on SHAN’s summer collection involved:

  • Eyewear retouching – Removing dust and smudges from sunglasses, straightening frames, taming glare while preserving realistic reflections, and sharpening edges for definition.
  • Wardrobe cleanup – Eliminating lint, dust, and distracting folds, aligning seams, refining hems, and using subtle Liquify to enhance garment fit without altering the design.
  • Color grading – Creating a cohesive summer palette that maintained the warmth of golden-hour light while ensuring fabric tones were accurate and consistent across all deliverables.
  • Background extension & object removal – Expanding canvases for tall in-store window formats and wide billboard crops, while removing distractions such as boats in the water, crew shadows, and unwanted debris in the sand or foreground.
  • Skin tone refinement – Evening out variations between the face, hands, and legs, especially correcting red tones in hands to match natural facial color.
  • Highlight & shadow recovery – Darkening blown-out skies to reveal cloud detail, lifting deep shadows to restore garment texture and facial features.
  • Nail cleanup – Refining toenails in open-toe shoes for a clean, brand-aligned look.
  • Consistent lighting & color balance – Adjusting lighting and color balance to create a unified look across the full image set.
  • Background detail enhancement – Enhancing subtle background elements to strengthen the scene’s authenticity without distraction.
  • Subtle shaping – Making gentle, realistic adjustments to body shape and proportions while maintaining a natural appearance.
  • Blemish cleanup with texture preserved – Removing minor skin imperfections while keeping pores and natural texture intact.

The SHAN workflow

1) Look development

Built a reference grade for sand, sea, sky, skin, and fabric to ensure every image shared the same visual tone.

2) Wardrobe & product pass

Refined fit, removed creases, and clarified fabric details for maximum impact in large-format print.

3) Eyewear polish

Balanced reflections, cleaned lenses, and defined frames for crisp visibility on billboards.

4) Composition & canvas builds

Smart background extensions for multiple aspect ratios: portrait, landscape, and ultra-tall window displays.

5) Beauty work

Natural skin retouching with micro dodge & burn, flyaway hair cleanup, lip line softening, and even skin tone correction.

Brand consistency & collaboration

  • Maintain brand consistency – Adhere to established brand guidelines for color palettes, image style, and editing techniques.
  • Aesthetic alignment – Ensure all retouched images match the brand’s desired look and feel across channels.
  • Creative partnership – Collaborate with the in-house photographer and art director to understand the intent of each shot and deliver on the brief.

Color management & cross-platform accuracy

We apply color management principles to keep hues accurate from screen to print—calibrated displays, ICC profiling, soft-proofing for print specs, and exports optimized for web and social—to ensure consistent results across platforms.

Results across formats

The final campaign rolled out nationwide—from street-level billboards to luxury boutique windows—while maintaining consistent color, detail, and polish. On social media, the imagery translated seamlessly, retaining its premium feel even at mobile scale.
