Dynamic Activewear Photography Challenges

Lululemon’s holiday campaign featured models in motion—jumping, running, and performing exercises against a dark blue studio setup with circular floor decals and floating sphere props. Action photography creates unique retouching demands: garment reshaping, pleat and fold removal while keeping movement natural, and even compositing face or body elements from separate shots.

In addition to garment corrections, one of the biggest challenges was hair cleanup during motion. Flying hair often left distracting gaps or fell across the model’s face. We reshaped hair volume, filled in large gaps, and in some cases hand-drew individual strands for a polished yet natural look. As per the Art Director’s requests, facial hair cleanup was a priority—removing stray strands while keeping the models’ profiles sharp and professional.

The floating spheres also presented technical challenges. Lighting and camera angles often distorted their circular shape, requiring digital reshaping. When they interfered with composition, we repositioned or removed them while preserving the creative direction of the campaign.

Precision Background Work and Color Matching

We addressed the technical challenges of sportswear retouching by correcting garment distortion caused by movement, removing floor scuff marks from the blue props, and balancing dramatic studio lighting that emphasized the athletic aesthetic. Using liquify techniques, we smoothed creases and reduced fabric bumps while preserving natural drape and authenticity.

Background cleanup required thorough attention across both dark blue and grey studio setups. We built precise clipping paths and masks, extended backgrounds for different crop requirements, and color-matched each image to Lululemon-approved brand swatches—ensuring perfect consistency across the entire campaign.

Fine Detail & Product Cleanup

Our product photo retouching services extended to fine details like removing dust particles, stray threads, and accumulated floor marks from active sessions. This meticulous cleanup elevated the campaign to the pristine standard expected from a premium activewear brand.

The editorial component of the campaign required a more refined finish compared to the action shots. We applied natural but high-end skin retouching, ensured fold symmetry and fabric texture clarity, and delivered consistent color grading across both lifestyle and dynamic imagery. The result was a campaign that blended athletic realism with editorial polish.
