Lingerie Photo Editing for Body-Positive Campaigns
Our collaboration with Knix presented one of our most meaningful retouching challenges—enhancing intimate apparel imagery while celebrating authentic women’s bodies, particularly postpartum figures. This wasn’t about creating idealized versions of motherhood, but rather supporting a brand mission to help women feel confident in their natural skin. The campaign featured mothers and babies in various stages of postpartum life, requiring a delicate balance between commercial polish and authentic representation.

Navigating Natural Body Representation
The extensive skin exposure inherent in lingerie photography similar to swimwear retouching demanded careful editorial decisions about which imperfections to address and which to preserve. We selectively reduced the visibility of some stretch marks and pregnancy-related skin changes while intentionally maintaining others that contributed to the campaign’s authenticity message. This selective approach required constant communication with the creative team to ensure each edit aligned with Knix’s body-positive values.
The technical challenge lay in achieving visual consistency across models with vastly different postpartum timelines—from recent mothers with visible C-section scars to women months into recovery with different skin healing patterns. Our skin enhancement work focused on evening out temporary discoloration and reducing harsh shadows that might distract from the emotional connection between mothers and babies, while preserving the natural texture and character that made each woman’s story genuine.
Specialized Children and Baby Retouching
Working with infants and toddlers introduced unique retouching requirements that don’t exist in standard fashion photography. Children naturally accumulate dirt spots around their mouths from eating and exploration, while stuffy noses often create visible nasal discharge that needed discrete cleanup for commercial presentation. These temporary imperfections required careful removal without altering the children’s natural features or expressions.
Fingernail cleanup proved essential, as children’s active lifestyles often result in dirt accumulation under nails that becomes prominent in close-up mother-child interactions. Additionally, children show higher rates of minor leg scarring from playground accidents and general childhood activity, requiring strategic scar reduction while maintaining the authentic, lived-in character that supported the campaign’s message about real family life.

Complex Multi-Subject Compositions
Group shots with multiple mothers and babies created unprecedented retouching complexity. Beyond individual skin work, we managed color temperature variations across different skin tones, ensured consistent lighting across subjects positioned at various depths, and handled the unpredictable elements that come with photographing infants—drool, unexpected expressions, and constant movement that sometimes left motion blur requiring careful reconstruction.
Background extension work proved essential for creating the spacious, inclusive feeling the campaign required. The original studio backdrop needed expansion to accommodate the larger group compositions while maintaining natural lighting consistency across the extended areas. We carefully preserved the soft, nurturing atmosphere while ensuring the technical quality met commercial standards for both digital and print applications across Knix’s diverse marketing channels.
